„Go for a walk through the park, swim in the lake and then have a sunset beer at Meierei, a brewery that overlooks Jungfernsee.”
If you‘ve lived in Berlin long enough, you know how hot Berlin summers can be. There are lots of lakes and parks in Berlin for escapism, but one of the most beautiful places lays right behind the southwestern border: Potsdam.
Formerly the capital of Prussia, and then later part of communist East Germany, Potsdam has also evolved a lot since the Berlin wall came down. Its lakes, castles and beautiful parks are easily accessible from Berlin by a short train ride. But if you really want to do it right, take a whole day off, rent a car and drive to Heiliger See. Go for a walk through the park, swim in the lake and then have a sunset beer at Meierei, a brewery that overlooks Jungfernsee.
Also, if you have time, visit Museum Barberini. It’s Potsdam’s art museum, and its collection features impressionists, Picassos and even GDR painters.
