The State Silk Museum

„The building has a status of a cultural heritage monument at present. ”

The State Silk Museum is one of the oldest among the world’s silk museums. The museum is located in a building which was specially built for the Caucasian Sericulture Station in 1887. The building has a status of a cultural heritage monument at present. The museum collection features objects from 63 countries. Unlike other silk museums, the showing also explores silkworm biology, with a collection of cocoons and special containers for silkworms and eggs. It also has a collection of textiles produced in the Caucasus, a butterfly collection and a library of rare books, among other interesting curiosities. It’s a crazy beautiful place, which is frequently used as an exhibition space during the Tbilisi biennial and other cultural events.
