The Brücke Museum is located in the Western neighborhood of Dahlem, a residential area of Berlin with access to historic 19th century villas, the wooded trails of Grunewald and the Freie Universität campus. The museum was opened in 1967 to honor “Die Brücke”, a group of German expressionist artists dating back to 1905 in Dresden who were comparable to the Fauvist artists of France.
The museum hosts rotating exhibitions examining the history and contemporary narratives surrounding die Brücke that draw upon their large collection of Brücke art. The museum is also adjacent to Kunsthaus Dahlem, another large art space with a lush sculpture garden and airy cafe, which is perfect for an afternoon snack or lunch during one’s visit to the Brücke Museum.
