Kumpelnest 3000

The kitschy, decades-old art bar founded by Mark Ernestus, a member of Basic Channel and the founder of Hard Wax

About this place

Kumpelnest 3000 is an infamous bar in Schöneberg that exemplifies the best aspects of kitsch. Opened on May 1, 1987, the institution was born from the work of Max Ernestus—an art student at UdK who later founded Hard Wax and became one half of Basic Channel—and has become a landmark for anyone who frequents Potsdamer Strasse. Kumpelnest is known for its anything-goes attitude and its droves of diehard regulars, most of whom are part of the queer, punk, art, burlesque and techno scenes. Even Kate Moss has allegedly been spotted at the iconic location.
